Hot Summer Events in Cornwall 2018

Cornwall is gearing up for another summer of exciting events. Each year, the county puts on a show to entertain visitors and locals in a series of festivals, parades and happenings. It’s a rich calendar of events featuring everything from small village fetes to large musical gatherings. Here are some of the hottest summer events and around Padstow and further afield in Cornwall in 2018.

Royal Cornwall Show

6-9th June – Wadebridge
This is the biggest event in the Cornish calendar. The Royal Cornwall Show is a huge gathering of farming displays and contests, mixed with food, shopping and entertainment. It’s a chance to see highly prized animals, browse the trade stands, get a bite to eat and enjoy the parades and spectacles in the main ring.

Padstow Vintage Rally and Country Fair

6-8th June – Trerethern Farm near Padstow
There’s more traditional fun and entertainment available at the Padstow Vintage Rally and Country Fair. Here you can see a display and parade of antique steam engines, which pulled agricultural machinery in bygone years. There are also tractor pulling displays, children’s rides and whole host of entertainment including galloping horseback acrobatics, motorcycle trail rider stunts and circus acts.

Rock Oyster Festival

6-7th July – Roskear Farm near Wadebridge
For fun music, delicious food and drink and awe-inspiring views head to the Rock Oyster Festival. It bills itself as an eccentric little festival and features a diverse range of colourful performers including musicians, bands, comedians and circus acts. The food here is a step above the standard festival fayre and includes gourmet burgers, a wild food kitchen and fresh, local oysters, as well as the Padstow Brewing Co beer tent.

The Barefoot Ball

21st July – Trerethern Farm near Padstow
New for Padstow this year is The Barefoot Ball. This is essentially a large, Boho themed, summer ‘garden’ party featuring a three-course feast, charity raffle and live DJ after party.

Padstow to Rock Swim

27th July – Padstow
This charitable event always attracts a large number of swimmers who want to tackle the challenge of a supported one-mile swim across the Camel Estuary. The Padstow to Rock Swim starts at the Sea Cadet slipway, just off the Camel Trail, and ends on the beach at Rock where swimmers can enjoy a celebratory pint and BBQ.

Boardmasters

8-12th August – Newquay
This surf, skate and music festival is one of Cornwall’s largest and best-known events, taking place across two venues at Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay. The historical heart of Boardmasters is the surfing contest, which regularly attracts pro surfers from all over the world. The Fistral site also has a huge skate ramp, where skateboarders show off their aerial skills. The big musical acts – which this year include George Ezra, Chemical Brothers and Catfish and the Bottleman – perform on the stunning festival site overlooking the sea at Watergate.

Falmouth Week

10-19th August – Falmouth
Falmouth Week is the South West’s biggest sailing event. As well as the historic regatta, featuring over 450 boats of all shapes and sizes, the event includes shoreside entertainment, carnival parades, local food and drink stalls, sporting challenges and live music and comedy acts.
