Autumn’s harvest brings with it an abundance of delicious ingredients plucked fresh from Cornwall’s coast and countryside. And you don’t have to dine in the region’s gastronomic hotspots to sample the cream of the crop.

Fill your basket at one of these farm shops where you’ll find succulent meats from animals reared in rolling pastures, veg picked from the soil underfoot, fish flipped off the day boats, artisan deli produce and cider pressed from local orchards. Conjure up your own culinary delights in the comfort of your holiday cottage and tuck into the taste of Cornwall on an autumn break.

On the doorstep of Harbour Holidays HQ and within a pebble’s throw of many of our holiday cottages is Padstow Farm Shop – which prides itself on a stocking the finest foods produced with the lowest possible carbon footprint. As well as locally-reared lamb, free-range pork and pasture-fed beef, you’ll find a colourful harvest of veg, all grown without pesticides and hand-picked daily. It’s one of Cornwall’s most impressive farm shops for a huge range of lip-smacking local produce, and the shop is even powered by wind turbine.

Stein’s Deli, Padstow

In the heart of Padstow, Stein’s Deli is a one-stop shop for delicious local produce, Cornish ales and wines, cookbooks and coastal giftware. With plenty of produce for grazing, it’s a great place to pack a picnic of Cornish cheeses, charcuterie, chutneys, fresh breads and bakery goods – and even pick up a funky platter to serve it it from.

From local veg and plants to speciality menu nights, the St Kew Farm Shop serves up finger-licking food for all tastes and occasions. Stock up on a smorgasbord of just-picked fruit and veg from the market garden, artisan pantry products and Cornish spirits, or take a seat in the café for hearty local dishes from the wood-fired oven.

Pentruse Farm Shop, Wadebridge

Don’t miss the turning for this great little farm shop tucked on the edge of road between Padstow and the Atlantic Highway towards Wadebridge. Pentruse is little more than a cabin, but one well stocked with fresh milk, locally-reared steak, Cornish ice cream and veg freshly dug from the surrounding fields. Self service via an honesty box, and you can pre-order organic meat boxes for a feast night.

Ensuring you know exactly where your food comes from, this working family farm on the outskirts of Newquay produces its own beef, lamb, geese and turkey, alongside a rainbow of fresh vegetables. There’s plenty of condiments too, with an array of jams, chutneys, and piles of bakery goodies – including traditional Cornish pasties. Passionate about the provenance of every ingredient, what doesn’t come from the rolling Cornish countryside is sourced from select suppliers in the UK.

The Shop at Trevone, Trevone

Step into the locally-owned shop in the heart of Trevone and you’ll find a treasure trove of the finest local produce amongst the daily groceries and giftware. Stock up on Cornish dairy products from fresh milk to local cheeses, pile your basket high with leafy veg grown on nearby farms, and don’t forget just-baked breads and a Cornish tipple or two to accompany your food.

Hop up the coast towards Port Isaac, and make a pit-stop at Trevathan Farm Shop to stock up on nature’s harvest. You can take your pick from the shelves or head out and pick your own from the farm. Home-reared beef and lamb, free range eggs and clotted cream are also on the menu, alongside preserves, fudge and Cornish wines. If you’re peckish you’ll be tempted to take a seat in the café to sample the likes of Cornish crab sandwiches and homemade cakes, while the kids can run off steam in the play area.

If you want to soak up the glorious countryside where Cornwall’s produce is grown and reared, make a beeline for this stunning setting of National Trust farmland hemmed by dramatic coastline. Spot grey seals and peregrine falcons from the cliffs, then head into the farm shop to find homegrown, award-winning beef, lamb and pork, and shelves stacked with homemade pies and cakes alongside other ingredients from artisan producers. With an onsite café boasting eye-popping views and the same lip-smacking ingredients, it’s unlikely you’ll leave without sampling a Cornish cream tea or full farmer’s lunch spread.

Hilltop Farm Shop, Camelford

Wend up the Atlantic Highway to this hill-top farm shop brimming with Cornish produce, from fresh bread and eggs, to daily-picked veg and meats produced on farms across the South West. As the name suggests, it’s a pretty location, and well worth taking a seat in the café for a classic breakfast or light lunch infused with Cornish ingredients.

If you’re heading to the far west along the A30, pause at Trevaskis for a full farm experience – pick your own veg, meet the animals and pack your basket with piles of local goodies from fish and dairy produce to freshly picked veg and meats reared on the farm.
