Best Restaurants in Padstow for Families

Eat, drink and be merry as you explore these superb family-friendly eateries in Padstow.

Padstow has a high culinary profile thanks to Rick Stein. The celebrity chef has a number of restaurants and cafés in the town and has helped put Padstow firmly on the South West food and drink map. As fantastic as these and other fine dining establishments in the town are, they are not really suitable for families with young children. Luckily, there are plenty of other family friendly places to eat, where children receive a warm welcome and food to relish. Here are some of our favourites.

Rojano’s in the Square

Padstow’s premier pizza place is an established presence in the heart of town. This Italian restaurant, now owned and managed by the town’s other famous chef Paul Ainsworth, is a Padstow institution just a few doors down from our own office. Here, locals mix with holidaymakers in the smart restaurant or in the glass atrium. Favourites from the menu include pollo piccante (spicy chicken) pizza and tagliatelle carbonara. Delicious!

Burgers & Fish

As one of the newcomers to the local food scene, Burgers & Fish has quickly developed a quality reputation for its fun and vibrant menu and atmosphere. Overseen by chef Redas Katauskas, the restaurant specialises in flavoursome gourmet burgers and seafood dishes cooked over a charcoal grill. This Padstow eatery is particularly popular with families with teenagers, whose eyes invariably bulge at the sight of the awesome burgers. Mouth-wateringly good!

The Shipwrights

Situated beside the harbour, The Shipwrights is one of Padstow’s oldest pubs. This quaint building with low wooden beams has served local fishermen for centuries and now keeps holidaymakers happily fed all summer long. Its convenient location makes it an ideal stop for families out for the evening in Padstow. There’s a harbourside terrace and rear beer garden, as well as a restaurant area for enjoying the wholesome food including local mussels, beer battered fish and chips and steak dishes. Beer lovers should not miss the local Cornish ales on tap at the bar.

Rick Stein’s Fish & Chips

This relaxed diner and take-away has taken traditional fish and chips up a notch or two. The chefs here cook locally caught cod, haddock and hake in homemade batter cooked in beef dripping. There are also some tasty alternatives such as the fish chilli burger and grilled mackerel. It pays to arrive early, as the Stein name often has people queuing up at the front door for a table. Families will love the cool seaside setting and easy menu.

Embers Woodfired Pizza

For laid-back – yet tasty – fast food head to Embers Woodfired Pizza in Padstow. The heart of this restaurant is the open wood oven where the Neapolitan style pizzas are cooked. House specials include Florentina pizza and mackerel topped pizza. Wash this down with one of the delicious sorbets and gelatos created in-house by the Padstow Ice Cream Company.

The Cornish Arms

Although it’s a few miles from Padstow in the village of St Merryn, we’ve included The Cornish Arms as it’s a great place to visit on the way back from the beach or after a day out sightseeing. This old Cornish pub has been revamped in recent years as a much loved gastropub. They serve up traditional British pub grub, such as scampi and chips, and pure beef burgers, as well as Moules marinière, grilled sea bass and other seafood favourites. The pub garden is great for kids to run around while dinner is cooking.
