Did you know Cornwall has its own airport? Located only 10 miles from Padstow, Cornwall Airport Newquay is a convenient hub for travelling to the county for your holidays. With quick flights from various destinations in the UK, plus routes from Ireland, Germany, Portugal, Spain and Denmark, it is an easy way to travel to Cornwall for onward travel to your self catering cottage or holiday home.
If you fancy flying to Cornwall on your next trip, these are the latest direct routes into the local airport.
If you live elsewhere in the UK, there are numerous options for hopping on a plane to Cornwall. As well as twice daily flights from London Gatwick, there are regular services from Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds/Bradford, Doncaster/Sheffield and Newcastle – all courtesy of Flybe. If you live in Scotland, Flybe also operates flights from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. From Northern Ireland, the carrier also runs daily flights from Belfast. Some of these routes are summer only.
There’s a strong Celtic connection between Ireland and Cornwall and the air links from Dublin and Cork are extremely popular routes with Irish holidaymakers. These routes are served by Aer Lingus. The airline flies from Dublin five times a week year-round, and twice a week from Cork during the summer months only.
Cornwall is an increasingly popular destination for holidaymakers from Germany. Luckily there are now three routes from the German cities of Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Stuttgart. Ryanair flies direct from these locations during the summer months from May to September.
Portuguese travellers can fly to Cornwall from Faro airport in the south of the country. The Ryanair route runs throughout the spring and summer months from March to October, and is a great way to swap the heat of the Algarve for the cool coast and countryside of Cornwall.
Ryanair also flies direct from Alicante in Spain from March to October. This route has become a hit with people travelling both ways since it was introduced a few years ago and is the only direct flight for people travelling to Cornwall from Spain.
Cornwall Airport Newquay’s latest route is from the Danish city of Copenhagen. As far as we know this is the first ever direct flight from Scandinavia, opening up the delights of Cornwall to Danish visitors. SAS operates this route for the peak summer months only, with weekly flights during June, July and August.
If you’re flying into Cornwall Airport Newquay from these cities, make sure you book your accommodation well in advance as Cornwall can get very busy, especially during the school summer holiday.
